The Hearn House
The Hearn House is a project rooted in the fundamentals of detailed French architecture. With a minimal palette, and a well conceived series of spaces, the home celebrates the finer detail of crafted construction. The site is located within a revered community in Edmonton's spectacular river valley, and the final design reflects the nature of homes from the contextual era of the greater community with a fresh and contemporary flair.
The constraints of the site called for a house that was built upwards versus outwards, and one that took full advantage of available building envelope. A traditional form clad in three different materials is placed on the site and carved away, providing opportunities for architectural intervention. A void sliced out of the center of the house provides daylight, ventilation, and a private outdoor garden that adds visual amenity to the main living room and dining room.
